TUSA Consulting Services is pleased to announce that Sangamon County, Illinois, has officially gone live with their new P25 emergency communications system as of August 28, 2024. This significant milestone marks the successful completion of a critical project that began in 2019, aimed at modernizing the county’s emergency communications infrastructure.
The transition to the P25 system was initiated due to the aging VHF radio system that had served the county for many years. With the system nearing the end of its lifespan and spare parts becoming increasingly difficult to acquire, the need for a more reliable and advanced solution became apparent. Sangamon County has now seamlessly integrated into the State of Illinois STARCOM 21 P25 Phase II system, ensuring enhanced communication capabilities for its first responders.
Joining the STARCOM21 P25 system represents a substantial upgrade, offering improved interoperability, greater coverage, and more reliable communication channels for public safety officials. These enhancements are critical for first responders as they work to protect the citizens of Sangamon County.
