Newton County breaks ground on tower for incoming E-911 radio system

OXFORD, Ga. — Next summer, public safety radio dead spots across Newton County will be no more. County officials and first responders gathered outside Newton County Fire Station No. 9, located at 176 Mt. Zion Road in Oxford, on Thursday to break ground on the construction of the first of three towers that will help take the county’s public safety communications system to new heights. Countywide emergency radio system to be operational in early July

Despite project delays, the county’s new 800 MHz radio system from Motorola should be fully operational in early July — about two weeks ahead of schedule. Dennis Ward, senior project manager with TUSA Consulting Services which spearheaded the project, told county commissioners at their Wednesday, May 26, study session that the 800 MHz system’s final cost came in $11,000 over the original budget. Salina City, county launching new emergency radio system Tuesday

After years of planning and collaboration, the new county-wide emergency radio system is almost live. The system is scheduled to launch at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, according to information provided this afternoon by local public safety agencies. The new digital 800-megahertz P25 radio system replaces analog UHF system that has been used for more than 20 years. The new system, which cost $7.7 million, allows emergency responders to communicate with each other and surrounding public safety agencies, including state agencies.
